Lauren's Not Borin'

#ModelProblems What You're Not Seeing BEFORE the Shoot (feat. Images by Jack Soltysik)

9/27/2018

Photos by the incredible Jack Soltysik
A little preface to this shoot: I had three shoots, my day job, an office outing and closing on a new house ALL THE DAY THESE IMAGES WERE TAKEN. I was about ready to pass out when I got to the shoot. I showed up late, makeup melting but thankful I was able to shoot with one of the sweetest people I know, Jack!

With every shoot what you're seeing is the final product. You're not seeing what happens leading up to the shoot or how a person is truly feeling. You're seeing the images the model and photographer (and the whole team in general) choose to show to the world. Every model is different, but here are some of my #modelproblems:
  • My most noticeable model problem is acne.  In general I've struggled with acne since I was a teen, but you're told when you're an adult it gets better. Sometimes that's true. My most troubled area with acne is the lower face/upper neck, meaning it's hormone and stress related. There's an enormous amount of stress for a model on how clear your face is, thus adding to the stress. I try to combat this with at home natural face masks, masks recommended by my doctor and regular monthly facials. As far as the stress part...well that's currently in the works to fix.
  • Balancing work and home. Chicago modeling means you're constantly hustling and traveling for other bookings, but it's not all fun and games when you're working. There needs to be a balance.
  • Something I've struggled with for a very long time is my anxiety, both social and professional. Maintaining a professional dimeur is  incredibly important to me. There will always be people who are more experienced or better looking than you, but when you're professional people will be more likely to hire you again.
