Lauren's Not Borin'

5 Fashion Tips (From a Model That Doesn't Know SH$T) feat. Alex Weyer

As part of the series I announced, here's some fashion tips that I've learned through modeling that have shaped how I dress, shop and my overall aesthetic.
  1. Dress comfortably--It's pretty obvious. If you're not comfortable in an outfit, you won't ever reach for it in your wardrobe, except for that ONE dress/suit that just looks too good and you will wear to an event(...eventually). Now there are so many options and comfy clothes, like joggers, are becoming a fashion staple. So you CAN go out in those sweatpants and still be fashion forward!
  2. When in doubt, black it out--Black is a universally flattering color. When I'm rushing out the door, I'll always grab all  black, you can never mix match this color. And, if anything, you'll look like you're biker chic, like this outfit.
  3. Have ONE staple piece that is uniquely you--Everyone has one piece of clothing that makes them stand out in a crowd, for me that's my leather jacket I'm wearing in this series. Why a black leather jacket? Ummmm okurrrr, it has fringe, vintage (from a company since closed in the early 2000's), and fits my personality (rough around the edges but with a fun twist). When I step out with my jacket, people instantly know it's me and the jacket is mine.
  4. Find a stylist/designer you identify with--Having at least one stylist or designer you  see yourself in EVERYTHING they wear and design can help you find new looks and styles you wouldn't have necessarily tried. For me that stylist is Phil and my favorite designer Self Portrait!
  5. Personality over clothes--Yeah clothes are cool, but it's the person who really shines through. When you're wearing clothes that are authentic to who you are and what you like, your personality and unique traits will shine through. Express yourself. And don't be afraid to experiment, trying new things or looks!
To be completely honest, I'm not a stylist or a designer, but I love clothes. I love how clothes can transform a person and make someone feel more confident. My style over the years has COMPLETELY changed, as a natural progression. These are just some tips that I've discovered as I've been navigating my own style transformation. Recently has been my biggest leap of styling myself. I needed stylists to consistently work on my image and look, but when I started to discover clothes myself, that's when the transformation really formed on its own.
